I first read “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos,” by Jordan Peterson a few years ago when my friend Jennings DePriest lended me his copy. I had a spare audible credit and wanted to refresh on the “12 Rules,” before his new book came out, “Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life,” and I could not have made a better decision.
“12 Rules for Life,” as narrated by Jordan Peterson is one of the absolute best auible books available and the work is arguably one of, if not the best and most practical self improvement books of the 21st Century.
Brief Background: Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist, a Canadian professor at the University of Toronto and famed YouTube star for his practical, conservative views of human psychology.
Jordan’s central idea is that suffering is built into the structure of being itself and one has to accept that life is challenging and hard or have no life at all.
The 12 Rules for Life Are:
- “Stand up straight with your shoulders back”
- “Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for helping”
- “Make friends with people who want the best for you”
- “Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today”
- “Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them”
- “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world”
- “Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)”
- “Tell the truth — or, at least, don’t lie”
- “Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t”
- “Be precise in your speech”
- “Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding”
- “Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street”
“12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos,” by Jordan B. Peterson receives a perfect 10/10 on the Fletcher Dilmore book review scale. I already recommend this book to all of my friends and am excited to also recommend it to my readers.
