If you are like me, you are probably not too familiar with Gene Simmons other than the simple pop culture fact that he is one of, if not the face of the rock band KISS. I saw Gene Simmon’s “Power,” quoted several times by another well respected author/ speaker, Stefan Aarnio in his book, “Hard Times Create Strong Men. ” After seeing “Power,” quoted several times and being really impressed with the message, I finally broke down and purchased a copy.
Gene Simmons book on Power may not be politically correct but it is filled with to the point hard truths and realities of life along with personal stories from the authors life that add color to the points he makes. Gene is clearly inspired by Niccolò Machiavelli’s The Prince and references it often. Gene Simmons offers his unique take on the dynamics of power in every realm of life, from the boardroom, the world of rock, celebrity, social media and to politics. With anecdotes from his life and career, as well as stories from historical and contemporary masters of power, including Winston Churchill, Napoleon Bonaparte, Warren Buffett, Michael Jordon, Oprah, and Elon Musk, Simmons crafts a persuasive theory on how the pursuit of power drives civilization and defines our lives. He leaves the reader with the understanding that at the end of the day, the readers success is truly left in their own hands.
On the Official Fletcher Dilmore Book Scale I rate Gene Simmon’s, “On Power: My Journey Through the Corridors of Power and How You Can Get More Power,” a 10/10, a quick essential read for all young professionals and anyone who desires to be the best version of themselves.
